Answers
1. Mike Babcock resigned as the head coach of the COLUMBUS BLUE JACKETS following revelations that Babcock demanded that players show him photographs from their phones, ostensibly as part of some sort of team-building exercise. Babcock has been repeatedly accused of using bullying tactics during previous coaching stints in the league. “We got it wrong and that’s on us,” team president John Davidson said about Babcock’s firing.
2. The United States and South Korea conducted a reenactment of the Incheon landing in the YELLOW SEA. China has reportedly been dissatisfied with training exercises conducted by the two countries and is now carrying out its own training exercises in response.
3. The White House called out states for insufficiently funding land-grant HISTORICALLY BLACK COLLEGES AND UNIVERSITIES to the tune of over $12 billion. Eighteen states have land-grant HBCUs, and according to the Biden Administration, only Delaware and Ohio are properly funding those schools.
4. JOSH GREEN is the current governor of Hawaii. Green holds the distinction of being the first governor of Hawaii in the state’s history to be born after Hawaii achieved statehood in 1959. “We are no longer anticipating the destructive effects of climate change—we are now fully enduring them,” Green told the United Nations, referencing the Maui wildfires.
5. Doja Cat's hot new single is “PAINT THE TOWN RED.” Doja Cat has repeatedly feuded with certain of her fans on social media throughout the summer, and the song appears to refer to those feuds, with lyrics such as “They just want my love and my energy / You can't talk no shit without penalties / Bitch, I’m in yo’ shit if you send for me.” The success of “Paint the Town Red” suggests that Doja Cat will continue to find success despite the haters.
Doja Cat: Bitch, I said what I said.
Bonus: The colors blue, yellow, black, green, and red were respectively referenced in the above answers. Those colors are, from left to right, the colors of the OLYMPIC RINGS. The Summer Olympics are being held in 2024, and you’ll hear more about them right here.
